Why skimboarding in Dubai is unique
Dubai and the Gulf are different from the places most skimboards are designed for.
Here, we ride:
-
Short-period chop
-
Long flat sections
-
Fewer clean wave days
-
More technical and flat riding than wave charging
Selection Tips
THE GENERAL SIZING RULE
Start with the general sizing rule
A common guideline is a skimboard that comes slightly above your sternum (mid-chest).
This gives you a size range, not an exact board.
THE DUBAI ADJUSTMENT
How I adjust sizing for Dubai conditions
In the UAE, I use the sternum rule as a baseline, then adjust based on local conditions.
Because we ride more flat water and chop than powerful waves, I usually recommend going slightly bigger within that sternum-based range.
Extra length helps with:
-
Early planing
-
Better glide on flat sections
-
Stability in choppy water
-
Faster progression
This is why two riders the same height may end up on different boards here.
STYLE OF RIDING
Which type of riding suits your preferences
Keep in mind which type of riding you are most interested in and fits best with the conditions here in Dubai
BOARD TYPES THAT WORK IN THE UAE
Still unsure? That’s normal.
“Ask a sizing question”
“Get help choosing a board”
“Not sure what size you need?”
If you want help narrowing it down, you can message me with:
-
Your height & weight
-
Where you usually skim
-
Your experience level
I’m happy to point you in the right direction — no pressure to buy anything.
Why:
I don’t try to sell every skimboard.
I help people choose boards that actually work in the Gulf.
Board choice works best when it’s adjusted to how you actually ride.
